holy crap! 7 travs made the all star team! Congrats to all (Morrisey, SRod, Sandoval, Wilson, Adenhart, Green Arredondo). Unforunately, if you have that many all stars and you are still 10 games under .500, that means the other 18 guys must really be suckin' hind tit. Or that your division is just full of hind tit suckers.
Go Travs!

I'm not really surprised by the eight. They are all really good. If you look at the names they are definitely the Travs all stars.
Greg Porter is really starting to come around. He with 2 for 5 tonight with a home run. His play in this homestand has been impressive. (avg .387 2 HR) I know Saturday not only did he get a homer, but made some awesome catches in right field that robbed Springfield of a few homers. I believe that was the night they pitched around Greg or was that Sunday night. It's been a long homestand. Springfield also pitched around Freddy.
Speaking of Freddy, I'm a big fan but I'm not the only one. He seems to have developed a large following. I hear more people cheering for Freddy than anybody. It's great to see him get the recognition.
I'm guessing Bobby Wilson is also starting to feel comfortable after returning from the DL. He's had a great homestand. He hit .458.
Nick Adenhart and Nick Green make a nice pair of starting pitchers, while Amalio looked pretty darn good when I saw him pitch the other night.
Somebody I'm hoping will turn around his batting average is Cody Fuller. He's been great defensively in center field.
And of course getting Jose back, after serving his disciplinary action, will help the team.

I am very glad that Porter has started to hit. His average has come up and the mysteriously disappearing power has started to come back. However, "awesome" and "catches" should not be used in the same sentence as the name Greg Porter. That guy takes the most circuitous route available to a spot somewhere within his 8 foot wingspan. He has made lots of catches that I didn't think he would, but none of them are awesome. Most are, what I would call, UGLY (though effective and I give credit for that). Porter is truelly an andventure in RF. You never know which way he's gonna break on a ball, if he's gonna get to it, if he even sees it. More often than not he seems to throw up his glove at the lost possible second, at some bizarrely contorted angle and pull down a baseball. I swear at point on Saturday I thought he was doing the Tango before he came down with a baseball in his glove. I really think they should put together a DVD of Porter's catches this year and sell them to fans. I'd buy 2 copies.

Porter looks as comfortable in the outfield as Chris Duncan. While he does make most plays, it sure makes me nervous.
What was with the umping last night? Botched balk, missed foul tips, etc. That was probably the worst "professional" umping I have ever witnessed.

While ya'll are ripping on the travs all stars, remember that the whole north division sucks, so you may as well pick names out of a hat. I haven't looked at the Travs stats, but Luke Hochevar is on there, and the league is batting .283 off his sorry ass. Prospect he might be, "top," he ain't.

What's the deal with Cody Fuller wearing #25 now? What's Collins wearing and why?
Posted by: LR Fan | June 13, 2007 at 12:50 PM
So, Cody Fuller is wearing Michael Collins number. And Bobby Wilson is playing his position.
Anybody know the status of Michael Collins?
Posted by: stogster | June 13, 2007 at 01:59 PM
Witness protection for Collins?
I'm not sure the North Division deserves an all-star team. How about the South's reserves playing the South's starters and the North providing some subs for both sides?

Mars, what on earth are you talking about with Porter. He is the best right fielder I have seen come through here in a long time. He gets great reads of the balls, and you say he throws his glove up in some distorted angle. Where are you sitting in the stands? Because I think it is your view. If you sit out in the beer garden right next to him, you will see that there is no distortion there. If you want to rag on anyone catching the ball, or not catching the ball how about Fuller. He is the worst center fielder in the league hands down. He is always trying to make these dive and catches, which is fine, but he sucks at it. He has missed so many balls that he could just let bounce and the batter get one base. But no, trying to show off dives and the ball passes him and the batter gets 2 bases and most likely and RBI. So Then on a play after Fuller dives and misses, we get to see Porter use his rocket launching arm to throw down home.
I think Mars you need a new seat

I think the mention of sitting in the beer garden explains everything........

Michael Collins is back in the line up tonight at 1st. Bobby Wilson is back at catcher.

sorry I just had to paste and post this again. There is a new definition of hilarity in town.

Porter has homered again tonight. That's 3 in less than a week.
Posted by: stogster | June 13, 2007 at 08:03 PM
He can hit...no doubt. Glad his swing is coming around so he can hit it out of the park. He has hit the ball well....most of all season. Just seemed to hit it right at someone.

That's porter out in right? I thought it was a juiced up rickey henderson.
I just thought I'd throw this out there:

For a right fielder, he's a damned fine Wide Receiver. :D

Don't get me wrong. I like Greg. I just want less stolen bases and more ray winder fence clearing blasts out of my main man.

I just wanted to say I could not agree more with the comments about Fuller and Porter. Fuller is TERRIBLE!!!!

"I'm not sure the North Division deserves an all-star team."
Huh? Joe Mather is hitting .312 with 18 HR - 46 RBI, the best player in the league in the first half. Sean Danielson is hitting .345. Colby Rasmus is hitting .272 - 10 HR - 38 RBI - 10 SB.
Several guys playing with the birds on the jerseys deserve the all-star vote, and they're not a bad team with 5 straight wins. After a 2-7 start they've gone 31-22... not too shabby I'd think.

Wow, I just checked, Porter is hitting .400 for his last 10 games, with 3 HR, 7 RBI's and 7 Runs scored. I think he is breaking out. Its about time. Now we are about to have fun watching Travs game. Wilson is also hitting .343 in the last 10 games with no HR but 7 RBI's. Lets go Travs, they are warming up.
They just wanted to give everyone else a head start. Playoffs here we come

I'll grant you that there are a few individuals in the North Division having a fine year. But enough of them to field a team? I think not.
I'll also agree with you that Springfield looked like a pretty decent team. That's a rarity for a St. Louis AA franchise. I'm really interested to see if this new scouting director of late can replenish the Cardinals' farm. Crops have been pretty slim for a few years now.

Might be a bit tougher to make the second half playoffs with Arredondo pitching for the Quakes. He and Mags must not be seeing eye to eye. Sounds like the Mags foot is seen Jose's butt out the door of AA baseball. Ouch!

"I'm really interested to see if this new scouting director of late can replenish the Cardinals' farm. Crops have been pretty slim for a few years now."
Agreed. Seems like they have a decent farm system right now for a change and had what appears to be a good draft. They'll be needing it sooner than later with the way this year's team is looking.
